Elections for the European Parliament

The last elections for the European Parliament were held on June 6, 2024. The next elections for the European Parliament will take place five years later.

 

In the European Parliament, there are people from all 27 countries of the European Union. The European Parliament decides on new laws and votes on trade agreements between countries.

Additionally, the European Parliament oversees other institutions of the European Union. Moreover, the European Parliament monitors whether taxpayer money is being spent properly. Lastly, the European Parliament allocates funds to enable large projects. For example, the construction of the sewer system on Bonaire.

 

You can vote for candidates from Dutch political parties. Most Dutch political parties are affiliated with a European political party.

When are you allowed to vote?

You are allowed to vote if:

  • you are 18 years or older.
  • you have Dutch nationality.
  • you are registered as a resident of Bonaire.
  • you are not excluded from voting rights.
