Elections for the House of Representatives
The next elections for the House of Representatives will be held in 2027.
Elections for the House of Representatives
By voting, you decide who will be in the House of Representatives for the next 4 years. In the House of Representatives new laws are made, among other things. These laws can also apply to Bonaire. What is decided in the House of Representatives can therefore also affect residents of Bonaire, like you. Therefore, it is important to vote.
When can you vote?
You are allowed to vote for the House of Representatives if:
- you are 18 years or older.
- you have Dutch nationality.
- you are registered as a resident of Bonaire.
- you are not excluded from voting rights.
You vote for a candidate from a political party
You can vote for a candidate from a Dutch political party that you believe has good ideas. If candidates receive enough votes, they will enter the House of Representatives. There they can influence the laws and regulations for the Netherlands and Bonaire.
After the elections, the parties make a plan
After the elections, the votes are counted. The more votes a party receives, the more seats that party gets in the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives consists of 150 members. To be able to govern, collaborating parties must have a majority of seats. This means at least 76 seats. Together, these parties make a plan on how they want to govern the Netherlands for the next 4 years.
If a party no longer wants to participate in the collaboration, the number of votes can fall below 76. Then there is a minority and the government must resign.
