Elections Electoral College
Every 4 years, there are elections for the members of the Electoral College. These elections are held simultaneously with the Island Council elections. The last ones were on March 15, 2023.
You can vote for the Electoral College if you meet the following criteria:
-You are 18 years or older;
-You have Dutch nationality;
-You are registered in Bonaire's basic personal records database
The Electoral College chooses the Senate
The Senate has 75 seats. The members of the Senate are chosen every 4 years by:
-The members of the Provincial States;
-The members of the Electoral Colleges of Bonaire, Saba, and Sint Eustatius;
-The members of the Electoral College for Dutch voters living abroad.
The Senate discusses bills that have been passed in the House of Representatives and votes on them. These laws can also apply to Bonaire. What is decided in the Senate and the House of Representatives can have an impact on you. So, it's important to vote.
Electoral College Bonaire
Bonaire has its own Electoral College, just like Saba and Sint Eustatius. Every 4 years, the residents of Bonaire vote for who should represent the island in the Electoral College. Members of the Electoral College do not have a role in the execution of the government tasks of the Public Entity of Bonaire.
The Senate assesses the House of Representatives
The only task of the Electoral College is to vote on the members of the Senate. The House of Representatives can submit, modify, and approve bills. The Senate assesses the bills passed and can potentially reject them. This way, not all power lies in one chamber, and citizens have time to object.

You can nominate yourself if you:
-Are 18 years or older;
-Have Dutch nationality;
-Are registered in Bonaire's basic personal records database
